Turkey - SMART

On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that the United States plans to provide 200 million dollars to “achieve stabilization” in the areas "liberated" from the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria.

Tillerson added, at a meeting of coalition countries against ISIS in Kuwait, that the end of combat operations against ISIS “doesn’t mean that the United States and its allies have defeated it permanently,” according to Reuters.

The United States considers the presence of its forces in Syria necessary to maintain its national security, Tillerson said during a speech at Stanford University in California last month.

The United States support the factions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) operating in Northern Syria, and others in Southern Syria. Furthermore, the US supports the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the "Euphrates Anger" operation, which ended by the SDF controlling the city of Raqqa, which had previously been the most important ISIS stronghold in Syria.

The International Coalition military campaign in Syria and Iraq started in mid-2014 in the areas controlled by ISIS. The campaign has killed and wounded thousands of civilians, and displaced hundreds of thousands, however the Coalition only admits the death of a very small number of people.
