Turkey - SMART

On Thursday, Syrian civil society groups launch a media solidarity campaign under the name “Together for Ghouta”, during a press conference held by the same groups in the Turkish city of Gaziantep.

The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) said on their Facebook page that the campaign aims to highlight and raise awareness of the suffering of the 400,000 civilians living in the besieged Eastern Ghouta.

SAMS added that civilians in Ghouta are living under poor humanitarian conditions and lack access to basic life necessities, including food and medicine.

SAMS noted that the Syrian Non-Governmental Organizations Coalition supervises the campaign.

Local activists have launched an electronic support campaign under the name “Save Ghouta” to raise awareness of the situation in the cities and towns of besieged Eastern Ghouta amidst the loyalist forces’ recent military campaign in the area.

Since late December 2017, loyalist forces have been intensifying the bombing of the cities and towns of Eastern Ghouta, killing and injuring hundreds of civilians.
