Rif Dimashq, SMART
The Jaysh al-Islam has given the international organization of Prohibiting Chemical Weapons permission to enter Eastern Ghouta. The decision comes after the government’s activities, particularly regarding the use of internationally sanctioned illegal weapons, are brought to question.

On Friday, Muhammad al-Loush, head of the political office of Jaysh al-Islam, told SMART that they will allow a chemical investigation team entry to areas where loyalist forces have attacked using chemical weapons.

Yasser Dalwan, manager of the political office of Jaysh al-Islam, said that they are still waiting for the organization to reply after contacting them. Jaysh al-Islam agreed that the organization entered Eastern Ghouta and promised to protect its team.

Dalwan added that Jaysh al-Islam keeps samples of poisonous chlorine gas after loyalist forces (supported by Russia) bombed Eastern Ghouta. Dalwan said that they will prove that to international groups. The time of the team to enter has not been specified nor any further details given.

In early Jan. 2018, loyalist forces bombed the outskirts of Douma, Eastern Damascus. Using poisonous chlorine gas, they suffocated dozens of civilians.

On Nov. 20 2017, the United Nations ended its work on the Investigation Joint Mechanism Committee between the UN and the organization of Prohibiting Chemical  Weapons, on the topic of chemical attacks in Syria.
