Netanyahu to UN: "Golan Heights will remain in the hands of Israel forever"

On Friday, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared to the Secretary- General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, that Golan Heights will remain forever with Israel.  

On Apr. 17 2018, The Israeli government held a conference for the first time in the Golan heights, considering Golan a part of Israel forever.  

Israel captured the Golan Heights in the 1967 war, when the former Syrian President Hafez al-Assad was the minister of defense. In 1973, he could only gain control over al-Quneitra as Israel announced the annexation of Golan in 1981. Israel was not able to obtain acceptance of this annexation from the international community.

according to a short statement published on Netanyahu's account on Twitter, he stated at the Munich Security Conference, that Israel would not allow Iran to have military bases that further entrench it within Syria.

On Feb. 10 2018, after it F-16 warplane was shot down, Israel launched a wide military attack that targeted 12 locations in Syria where loyalist forces and Iran are present.

On Feb. 14 2018, knowledgeable sources told SMART that Iranian fighters arrived in Syria to fight alongside loyalist forces in al-Quneitra and in Sanamin in Daraa, Southern Syria, after Israeli air raids during in the past days.
