Turkey - SMART

On Friday, a Free Syrian Army (FSA) commander was wounded after an explosive device hit his vehicle in the town of Saida, 10 km east of Daraa, Southern Syria. The FSA is a military gathering founded in July 2011 by dissident officers of the Syrian loyalist forces to protest the violence against the peaceful demonstrators.

A military source from al-Thawra Army, which is part of the FSA, said that one of its commanders, Abd al-Rahman Mahameed, was injured in an explosion. He was subsequently transferred to al-Salam hospital in the town of Saida, his condition stable.

The same source accused either the loyalist forces or the Islamic State, in reference to the Khalid ibn al-Walid Army, of planting the explosive device, as al-Thawra Army is currently fighting against them in Daraa.

The assassination of military commanders and fighters using explosive devices is common practice in Daraa, sometimes causing the deaths of innocents. Furthermore, the FSA has recently arrested a government-affiliated militia responsible for some of the incidents. The FSA holds the Khalid Army, accused of allegiance to ISIS, responsible for other bombings.
