Idlib - SMART

The price of diesel fuel has increased to 205 US dollars per barrel in Idlib, Northern Syria, due to the ongoing Afrin battle. The cost of 205 US dollars per barrel is one of the highest in the world.

Local traders told SMART on Saturday that the price per barrel has gone up due to the scarcity of fuel, as the fuel quantity in the governorate is only five per cent of the usual amount.

The traders explained that the main reason for the high prices is the closure of the Afrin road. Fuel had been coming to Idlib from eastern Syria via the Afrin road, but it was later closed due to the ongoing battles in the region.

In Idlib, the price of a fuel barrel decreased to 11,000 Syrian pounds [51 US dollars] in mid-November 2017, when a Free Syrian Army (FSA)-controlled road opened north of Aleppo.
