A foreign member of the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) was killed during clashes in the Afrin area in Northern Aleppo, Northern Syria. The YPG is the main component of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The Asayish forces, which are also part of the YPG, announced the killing of two of its members during the clashes.

Activists said that a member of the YPG, who is a Dutch citizen, was killed during the fighting in the Afrin area, without specifying the exact location of his death or giving more details about his identity.

The media center of what is known as the “Asayish forces in Northern Syria” said that on Saturday, two of their fighters were killed during a confrontation with the Turkish Army and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the area of Shih in Sheikh al-Hadid.

Yesterday, several areas in the town of Afrin were hit by artillery shelling, which led to the killing of a man and a woman and the wounding of three civilians in villages in the area of Bulbul. A civilian was killed and three others were wounded in shelling by the (SDF) on the town of Kilgreen in the city of Azaz, Northern Aleppo.

On Jan. 21, the Turkish Army and the FSA started the first ground military operation in the Olive Branch Operation in the Afrin area. During the operation, they have gained control of several villages and strategic hills previously controlled by the SDF.
