Deir ez-Zor - SMART

On Sunday, the Islamic State (ISIS) attacked al-Tanak oil field in eastern Deir ez-Zor, Eastern Syria, which is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a predominantly Kurdish and Arab alliance based in Northern Syria. ISIS executed two SDF guards during the clashes.

Activists said that clashes broke out between ISIS and the SDF in the vicinity of al-Tanak oil field, and ISIS killed two guards by firing squad. Activists said that they do not have any additional details.

On Saturday, remnants of land mines planted by the Islamist State exploded in the outskirts of al-Ghubra town near the city of al-Buqamal, killing a member and injuring another member of the loyalist forces, according to activists.

Clashes are still ongoing in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, between the SDF, ISIS, and loyalist forces. At the end of last month, the SDF announced their control of the town of Grangebark after battles against ISIS. Before that, more than ten members of the loyalist forces were killed by an ISIS attack on their locations in the eastern countryside.
