Night bombing by Russian forces kills and wounds civilians in town of Bayt Sawa, east of Damascus

Monday night/Tuesday morning, a suspected Russian airstrike killed eight civilians and wounded others in the town of Bayt Sawa, 11 kilometers east of the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Activists said that suspected Russian warplanes launched four raids on residential areas in the town after midnight, killing eight civilians and wounding others. The wounded were transferred to nearby medical clinics.

Suspected Russian warplanes also bombed the towns of Hammouriya, Kafr Batna and the city of Zamalka during the night, causing only material damage.

On Monday evening, government helicopters launched explosive barrels on residential neighborhoods in Bayt Sawa, killing 17 civilians, including women and children, while wounding more than 45 others.

Late yesterday evening, activists documented the killing of 88 civilians and wounding of dozens in a bombing by the Syrian government and Russia using various types of weapons which hit the cities and towns of Eastern Ghouta yesterday.

On Monday, the Governorate Council of Damascus Suburbs and the Syrian Interim Government called on the Negotiation Committee to suspend all negotiations with the Syrian government and its allies until the cessation of the military operation on Eastern Ghouta.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday that the experience of the city of Aleppo - an agreement under which the Syrian government abandoned most of the people east of the city to Idlib - could be applied in Eastern Ghouta.
