Damascus Suburbs - SMART

On Thursday, raids from suspected Russian warplanes killed eight civilians and injured dozens at an early count. The raids targeted several towns in Eastern Ghouta, despite United Nations Security Council Resolution 2401.

Local activists and the Civil Defense reported that airstrikes on the town of Hamoriya killed two civilians and wounded dozens. The airstrikes also killed a father and his daughter in the town of Kafr Batna.

The Civil Defense also reported that a similar bombing killed four civilians and wounded dozens in the Marg area in Ghouta.

Similar raids on the city of Irbin also injured a number of civilians, and bombings hit the town of Jisreen and the city of Zamalka, without causing casualties.

The air raids in Hamouriya and Zamalka started shortly after 9:00 am despite the Russian-backed five-hour truce from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Russia announced the alternative truce on Monday, two days after the activation of the UN ceasefire. The UN ceasefire should last for 30 days in all of Syria, and the Syrian government has been demanded to lift the siege on Ghouta to allow humanitarian aid and the evacuation of injured civilians.

Loyalist forces and Russia have been bombing Eastern Ghouta intensively since Feb. 18, killing and wounding hundreds of civilians, destroying infrastructure and medical facilities. The humanitarian situation in Ghouta deteriorates as civilians are forced to hide in uninhabitable basements for days without food and water.
