Aleppo - SMART

On Thursday, a humanitarian aid convoy from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent entered the Afrin region, Northern Aleppo.

The Red Crescent in Syria wrote on their Facebook page that the convoy is headed towards the city of Tel Rafaat in Afrin, however they did not mention the number of vehicles or their contents. Activists report that the convoy consists of 29 trucks and entered Afrin from the village of al-Ziara.

Meanwhile, local sources told SMART that the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) are spreading false rumours about a Turkish Army attack on the convoy in the village of Mermin in Nahiyat Shara.

A few days ago, civil society organizations in al-Hasakah launched a fundraising campaign to support the Afrin region. This coincides with clashes between the Turkish Army and factions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) on one hand and the YPG on the other. As a result of the clases, the FSA have gained control of several strategic towns and hills in Afrin.
