Idlib - SMART

On Thursday, the Turkish Army established a military checkpoint near the village of Rahma, north of the city of Idlib, Northern Syria.

Local activists told that four military vehicles and a bulldozer entered the Syrian territory through the crossing of the Kafr Lousin village, 30 kilometers north of Idlib, and established a military checkpoint on the road between the villages of Atma and Aqrabat.

The activists considered the establishment of this checkpoint a prelude to the entry of another Turkish military convoy to northern Syria towards the western countryside of Aleppo.

On Feb. 9, a Turkish military convoy also entered. It consisted of about 100 military vehicles (tanks, armored personnel carriers, BMB vehicles, fuel tanks, ambulances, and escorts). The convoy went to the city of Saraqib, 16 kilometers east of Idlib, to install monitoring points within the framework of the implementation of the agreement of de-escalation zones on the Syrian -Turkish border.

Turkey has deployed monitoring points in Jabal Samaan in Aleppo and the village of Salwa in Idlib. Also, military convoys are continually entering the two provinces after Turkey announced the start of deploying its forces and forming points as part of de-escalation zones agreement, which agreed in the Astana 6 talks. Turkey announced later that it seeks to implement four other bases.
