The Syrian loyalist and Russian forces bombed the cities and towns of Eastern Ghouta in the Syrian capital Damascus, killing and injuring civilians. The bombing came despite the UN Security Council’s Resolution 2401, calling for a 30-day truce in Syria.

On Thursday-night Friday-morning, a civilian was killed and others wounded as a result of five raids by Russian warplanes on residential areas in the town of Ashaari, according to the Civil Defense report on its Facebook page.

The Civil Defense added that warplanes shelled three residential neighbourhoods in Douma city, killing an unidentified civilian, two children and injuring others. Civil Defense teams also rescued two women and two children from the rubble of the destroyed buildings.

On Thursday, the toll for casualties from intensified shelling by varied weaponry increased in the cities and towns in the besieged eastern Ghouta. It result in 22 civilian casualties and dozens of injured others.

Russia announced a truce for five hours per day, two days after adopting the UN Security Council Resolution 2401, which calls for a comprehensive cease-fire in Syria lasting 30 days, the lifting the siege on Eastern Ghouta, the introduction of humanitarian aid, and unconditionally allowing the evacuation of patients and injured civilians.
