Humanitarian aid convoy enters Eastern Ghouta

On Monday, the United Nations aid convoy entered Eastern Ghouta in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Local activists reported to SMART that the convoy consisted of 46 cars entered through Al-Wafideen Camp crossing. Local activists pointed out that the Syrian loyalist forces prevented the medical aid from reaching people and evacuated the trucks from the medical supplies, while they allowed trucks that only contain food.

Earlier Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the loyalist forces excluded about 70 percent of the medical supplies in the aid convoy.

Activists pointed out that the local council of the city of Douma receives the aid materials under the protection of Jaysh al-Islam.

On Sunday, the United Nations reported on its official website that 46 truckloads consist foodstuffs and medical supplies are preparing to enter the besieged city of Douma in Eastern Ghouta, in convoy headed by the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator, Ali al-Zaatari. The convoy entered after received approval from the Syrian government.

On Feb. 24, 2018, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution of a truce in Syria for 30 days, which requires the immediate cessation of shelling, “immediate” medical and unconditional evacuation of medical personnel, in addition to lifting the siege by all parties on the besieged areas, including Eastern Ghouta.
