Turkey - SMART

On Tuesday, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that a thousand children have been killed throughout Syria since the beginning of this year.

The UNICEF member, Christoph Poliraq, said that ”living under the ground has become commonplace in the besieged areas of Eastern Ghouta in the Syrian capital, Damascus, which has a population of some 400,000 people, with some families set up last month in the cellars, some of which housed 200 people,” according to Reuters.

The UNICEF issued a speechless statement to describe its anger over the suffering of children trapped in Eastern Ghouta, due to the recent military escalation.

Hundreds of civilians, including many children, killed and wounded as a result of intensive bombing by the Syrian and Russian forces on cities and towns in the besieged Eastern Ghouta in recent weeks.

Children constitute the largest proportion of those who were forced to live in the cellars crowded with civilians in Eastern Ghouta to escape from the bombing by the Syrian government.

Children have stopped going to school over the past months because of the suspension of education, due to the fear among their safety.
