Turkey - SMART

The United Nations plans to provide a new convoy of humanitarian aid to Eastern Ghouta, besieged by the Syrian loyalist forces, on Thursday.

On Monday, a convoy of aid entered Ghouta, without emptying the truckload of 16 trucks in the city of Douma because of the loyalist forces' bombing of the town.

On Tuesday, the UN humanitarian officer, Jens Lierke, reported at a press conference, "After about nine hours inside Ghouta, the decision was made to leave for security reasons and avoid risking the safety of the humanitarian teams on the field."

Local activists reported yesterday that the UN and international delegation withdrew from besieged Eastern Ghouta after receiving an order from the Russian forces to withdraw. This came before unloading all the aid convoy, while the International Committee of the Red Cross reported that a convoy of humanitarian aid returned from the city of Duma "for insecurity."

Loyalist forces and Russia continued bombardment yesterday despite the presence of the international delegation. The warplanes launched five raids, in addition to using Surface-to-surface missile "Phil" and artillery shells. Some bombings targeted a site only 200 meters far of the unloading site of the convoy and the presence of the delegation.
