Russian military aircraft crashes in Hmeimim airbase, Syria

On Tuesday, The Russian Ministry of Defense said that a Russian military transport aircraft crashed in the Russian Hmeimim airbase in Latakia, Northeastern Syria, killing 32 people.

Russian media outlets reported the Ministry of Defense as saying that a military transport Antonov-26 aircraft crashed while landing in the Hmeimim airbase. The ministry noted that early information indicates that a technical fault caused the plane to crash and it was not targeted.

The Russian Ministry said in the statement that the aircraft crashed as it approached the runway in the Hmeimim airbase. The ministry added that the accident killed 26 people, which the department did not specify, and the six members of the crew.

In February 2018, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that a Russian Su 25 warplane crashed and captain killed in Idlib. The ministry noted that a rocket downed the aircraft.

On Sep.26,  2017, the Jaysh al-Izza said that their fighters downed a Russian helicopter over Northern Hama, Central Syria. Earlier, the Free Syrian Army(FSA) anti-craft machine guns hit Russian helicopters in Idlib and Hama during battles in 2017.
