Turkey - SMART

The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss the situation in Ghouta. He will also hold a call later today with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.

On Wednesday, the spokesman for the Turkish president, Ibrahim Kalan, reported that Turkey will do all they can to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Ghouta. The President Erdogan will make several diplomatic calls, according to the Turkish news agency Anatolia.

Syrian loyalist forces, backed by Iranian militias and Russian air support, have launched a major military campaign on Ghouta, which has been under siege for seven years. Loyalist forces have managed to gain control of several towns amid intense aerial bombing, killing more than 661 civilians while injuring more than 2,700 in the past 15 days.
