Turkey, SMART

On Wednesday, the Security Council held an urgent session to discuss updates on Eastern Ghouta, especially the Syrian government’s non-compliance in implementing the Security Council 2401 Resolution, approved by the council on Feb. 24 2018 and demanding a ceasefire in all of Syria.

News agencies reported UN officials saying that the “Security Council will hold an urgent session on Wednesday under the command of France and Britain, to discuss loyalist forces’ constant bombings of civilians in Eastern Ghouta.

On Tuesday, United Nations Children’s Organization (UNICEF) said that living underground has become familiar to civilians in the besieged Eastern Ghouta due to loyalist constant bombings.

Daniel Coats, the Director of US National Intelligence, said that Washington considers chlorine gas, which the Syrian government is using, a weapon of mass destruction. Coats noted that Washington is seriously evaluating the presence of chlorine attacks, and that US officials are holding serious discussions on the possibility of a US attack against the Syrian government akin to one that occurred after Loyalist forces bombed Khan Sheikhoun in Southern Idlib using poisonous gas.

On Tuesday, the Civil Defense said that their staff evacuated 30 civilians, including children and women, who were suffocated by loyalist chlorine gas bombings on Hamouria. The bombing occurred hours after the UN delegation withdrew from Ghouta under Russian orders.
