Rif Dimashq - SMART

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reports that the humanitarian aid convoy scheduled to enter the besieged eastern Ghouta on Thursday has been delayed.

Reutersnews agency quoted the spokeswoman of the Committee, Yolanda Jacmett, who said, "Today's convoy was delayed." The reason behind the delay is unknown.

Hours ago, the United Nations called on the Syrian government to activate a ceasefire to allow the entry of humanitarian aid into Eastern Ghouta.

The Syrian government has delayed the approval of an aid convoy for the city of Duma several times, and prevented another convoy from bringing medicine into Ghouta on Monday.

The international delegation accompanying Monday's aid convoy were forced to withdraw without unloading all the food and equipment. Local activists described the withdrawal as a Russian order, but the ICRC considered it to be due to the lack of safety amid heavy shelling.
