Rif Dimashq - SMART

On Friday, and minutes after a UN humanitarian aid convoy entered Douma, Syrian loyalist forces launched further raids on besieged Eastern Ghouta.

On its Facebook page, the Civil Defence wrote that five raids targeted residential neighbourhoods in Douma city just as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced the arrival of 13 food trucks to the area.

The Civil Defense added that a further five Russian raids targeted residential neighbourhoods, wounding civilians in the town of Jisreen.

Just some hours before the arrival of aid, there was a period of relative calm in an area that has for the last few days been targeted for military escalation and heavy shelling by government and Russian forces.

The loyalist forces, alongside Russia, bombed Eastern Ghouta last Monday, despite the presence of international and UN delegations accompanying an aid convoy in Douma. Activists reports that the bombing targeted sites only 200 meters away from where the delegations were located.
