Rif Dimashq - SMART

On Thursday, the Failaq al-Rahman of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) reported that it had regained control of a large section of the city of Hammouriya in Eastern Ghouta, Damascus, earlier controlled by Syrian loyalist forces.

The spokesman for Failaq al-Rahman, Wael Allwan, reported that the regaining of control came after an attack by fighters on loyalist forces' positions in the city.

Allwan added that the clashes are ongoing in this city, and the city of neighboring Irbin, amid the killing of dozens of fighters in the ranks of the loyalist forces.

Local activists said that about 7000 civilians from the cities of Saqba, Kafr Batna and Hammouriya, passed through a crossing opened by the loyalist forces in the early afternoon, heading to areas of their control.

The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham reported that its members launched an attack against loyalist forces in the city, killing and wounding a number of their members.

The Revolutionary Command Council in Damascus and its suburbs reported in a statement that the Syrian government had exploited the ensuing chaos, by hitting civilians, forcing them to flee to agricultural land without international arrangements or agreements, and then filming them to show that they had taken refuge.

He added that loyalist forces used fleeing civilians as human shields and advanced until they reached the main street of the city, but the FSA managed to contain the situation and has responded to loyalist forces.

The Council charged Russia and the UN Security Council of responsibility for the genocide taking place in Eastern Ghouta, calling on the international community to act urgently to stop it.

A number of Syrian loyalist forces’ members were killed and injured earlier in the day during clashes with the Jaysh al-Islam fighters near the city of Douma (15 kilometes east of Damascus) in Eastern Ghouta.

The Syrian government has gained control of dozens of villages and farms in Eastern Ghouta since the start of its military campaign in the region last Mid-Feb with the support of Russia, thus enabling it to be separated into two parts.
