Turkey - SMART

On Saturday, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Turkish troops and the Free Syrian Army factions (FSA) of the Olive Branch Operation are about to enter Afrin (43 kilometers north of Aleppo), Northern Syria.

Erdogan said in his statement at the Justice and Development (AK) Party's 6th Annual Congress in Mardin Province that Turkey-backed troops of the Olive Branch Operation were ready to enter the city of Afrin, further stating that they will announce the news at any time.

Erdogan added that the United States provided the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) with 5,000 convoys of weapons in addition to 2,000 cargo jets. The Turkish forces found this equipment right after the withdrawal of terrorists, according to Erdogan.

FSA's factions gained control of the central prison, west of Afrin, as well as seven villages in the area after clashes with the YPG of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party.

The FSA advanced in several locations in the Afrin area during the Olive Branch Operation, as they gained total control of the border area between Turkey and Afrin and also took control of five villages, Bulbol, Rajo, al-Sheikh Hadid, Sharan and Jindarys. Earlier yesterday, FSA factions attacked the Maabatli area, Western Afrin, the approach separating the area into two parts.
