Turkey - SMART

Turkish artillery shells an outpost of the Kurdish People's’ Protection Units (YPG) in the city of Ras al-Ain, 70 kilometers northeast of al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria, killing and injuring 17 YPG fighters.

On Monday, the Turkish news agency Anadolu quoted security sources saying that Turkish heavy artillery shelled an YPG outpost that had mortared Turkish military positions on the Syrian-Turkish border. The Turkish shelling killed seven YPG fighters and injured ten others.

On Monday, local councils and environmental groups in the Kurdish Autonomous Administration accused the Turkish Army of mortaring Alouk water station, which provides water for the cities of al-Hasakah and Tal Tamr. The water station was destroyed.

Earlier, Turkish borders guards, known as Jandarma, killed civilians in Ras al-Ain as they fled the city in fear of clashes between the YPG and the Turkish Army. Both sides continue to clash in the Afrin area, and the Turkish Army and Free Syrian Army (FSA) have now gained control of the area.
