Dissidents form station for Free Police in Murak city, Northern Hama

Hama - SMART

On Tuesday, Syrian police officers, who defected from the Syrian government, formed the free police station in the city of Murak, 28 kilometers north of Hama, Central Syria.

Said al-Sayyed, the head of the station, told SMART that the formation aims to re-activate the role of police in the region and preserve the property and security of the civilians in coordination with local bodies. He pointed out that their work is independent and voluntary.

Al-Sayyed also reported that the number of policemen that defected from the Syrian regime is "35" policemen, and this number can be higher in the coming days, no high-rank officers among the police defectors.

The free police deployed in some areas outside the Syrian government control to maintain security. They worked in coordination with the Free Syrian Army, and the judiciary. The free police consist of officers, and members defected from the Syrian government security forces and civilian volunteers.
