Rif Dimashq - SMART

On Tuesday, intensified loyalist bombings killed 56 civilians and injured dozens in the city of Douma in Eastern Ghouta, Rif Dimashq governorate.

The Civil Defense reported on Facebook that intensified loyalist airstrikes and rockets killed 56 civilians, including 14 children, in residential neighborhoods of Douma.

The Civil Defense posted a list of 51 killed civilians, including children, however, the list did not include the names of four unknown bodies, one of which had been torn into pieces.

Local activists reported that the number of the injured exceeded 100, noting that continuous bombings have led to three successive massacres in Douma.

The intensified bombings on Douma coincided with intensified loyalist bombings on Harasta, Irbin, and Ain Tarma, killing and injuring civilians on the third successive day of intensified bombings on Eastern Ghouta.

On Sunday, the local council of Douma said that Russian and loyalist bombings have killed 412 Douma residents, including 76 children, in 24 days.

The bombing continues despite the Russian ceasefire in Douma. The ceasefire announcement was followed by relative calm, with sporadic shelling during the visit of the United Nations and Red Cross delegation to the city.

The Syrian government forces divided Eastern Ghouta into two halves after escalating the bombing on Ghouta on Feb. 18. The northern half includes the city of Douma, which is controlled by the Jaysh al-Islam, and the city of Harasta, which is controlled by the Ahrar al-Sham Islamic Movement. The reinforcement roads between the two cities are blocked.

The government forces have gained control over major cities in the southern half, which is controlled by the al-Rahman Legion. Earlier on Sunday, the government forces gained control of Saqba and Kafr Batna, followed by the towns of Hamouriah and Jisreen. The al-Rahman Legion still controls Arbi and Zamalka, the town of Ain Tarma, and the Jobar neighborhood
