Idlib, Syria

On Wednesday, suspected Russian warplanes bombed a cave shelter on the outskirts of Kafr Batikh village in the southern Idlib countryside, Northern Syria, killing 22 civilians, including women and children.

Local activists reported that the Russian warplanes bombed the cave, which people use as a shelter on the outskirts of the village, killing 22 civilians, including 16 children and three women. The activists added that the death toll is likely to increase because the Civil Defense is still searching for victims.

The Civil Defense reported that the early death toll from the bombing was 13 civilians, including 11 children. The Civil Defense noted that the children fled from their school due to the airstrikes and headed to the cave, which the warplanes bombed when the children arrived.

Suspected Russian warplanes also bombed the al-Qassabia forest near Abdeen village in Khan Sheikhoun, Southern Idlib, using cluster bombs. The bombing caused no injuries among civilians.

Russian warplanes also bombed residential neighborhoods in al-Tamani’a in Southern Idlib.

On Tuesday, warplanes bombed a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) near the town of Has in Southern Idlib twice, killing ten civilians and injuring ten others, mostly children. The bombings also destroyed the entire camp.

In recent weeks, Russian backed-loyalist forces have been bombing Idlib, killing and injuring hundreds of civilians and destroying hospitals and medical clinics.
