Syrian rebels leave besieged Eastern Ghouta city, Harasta

The local council in Harasta has reported that “they will leave the city after four months of the siege of 20,000 civilians in Eastern Ghouta due to the ongoing bombing and the loyalist forces’ military escalation backed by Russia continue.

The local council stated that the exit decision also comes amid the impossibility of treating the wounded and sick civilians. Even basements and shelters become out of service.The local council added that the city bombed by thousands of air raids and missiles.

Movement of the displaced people and fighters from Harasta is scheduled to begin on Thursday-morning. A joint committee is to be formed and will be composed of people from the city whose mission it is to follow-up on the affairs of remaining detainees, such as the filing and conducting of civilian affairs.

On Wednesday, the spokesman for the Islamic Ahrar Sham movement, Munther Fares, told SMART that the agreement provides the fighters with their weapons through a safe passage.

The local council in Harasta has appealed to the international community to save the remaining 20,000 people in Harasta city After the loyal forces isolated the town from other cities of Eastern Ghouta and cutting off all medical and relief supplies.

In recent weeks, the Syrian government and Russia have stepped up their attacks on the city of Harasta, causing thousands of civilians to flee to uninhabited cellars, killing and injuring thousands of civilians, in addition to an ongoing military escalation in the towns of  Eastern Ghouta.

The Islamic Ahrar al-Sham movement is mainly present in Harasta. On Nov. 2017, it announced that it had started  Harasta battle in the Armored Vehicle Base.
