Aleppo - SMART

On Monday, 1,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the middle part of Eastern Ghouta arrived in Atarib city (30 kilometers west of Aleppo), Northern Syria.

Mustafa Abdul Kader, the communications official in Atarib local council, told SMART that the council accommodates the IDPs in different shelters according to availability. Abdul Kader added that 250 families will be sheltered in the city.

Abdul Kader added that the council asked the residents of Atarib to register spare houses and land to shelter the IDPs. Abdul Kader also said that local humanitarian organizations provided emergency food rations for the IDPs, and the council waits for "the rest of the organizations" to do provide further aid.

Muhammad Jafa, the IDP official in Atarib local council, said that they will distribute 3,000 IDPs across the cities of Ariha, Marraat al-Nu’man, and Atarib. Jafa added that 250 IDPs will settle in al-Ghadfa city, and the rest will be distributed to other areas in the Aleppo and Idlib countrysides. Jafa appealed to humanitarian organizations to provide food and medical aid as soon as possible.

On Monday, Atarib local council called on Atarib's citizens to help the IDPs from Ghouta. Dozens of people responded by donating food and other items. Other people donated land to establish camps, and empty houses to shelter the IDPs. People also cleaned schools for the IDPs to settle in.

At midday on Monday, the second group of IDPs arrived at the checkpoint crossing of Qal’at al-Madiq city in Northwestern Hama awaiting transport to temporary shelters in Idlib and Aleppo. The third group of IDPs is still preparing to leave Eastern Ghouta.

On Friday, the al-Rahman Legion of the Free Syrian Army and Russia reached an agreement to exit the cities of Irbin and Zamalka, the town of Ain Tarma, and the Joubar neighborhood in the middle part of Eastern Ghouta. The agreement also allows injured fighters to receive treatment in Damascus without prosecution. The fighters may choose whether to return to Ghouta or go to Northern Syria after they recover.
