Rif Dimashq - SMART

On Tuesday, Muhammad Alloush, a commander and member in the political office of Jaysh-al-Islam denied that they stopped negotiations with Russia about the fate of the besieged city of Douma city in Ghouta, Eastern Damascus.

The unofficial media channel of the Russian Hmeimim military air base posted on their Facebook page that the Russian deadline in Douma has ended. Alloush commented, "[The militia] Shabiha runs the [Facebook] page, and this is not in defense of the Russians, as they [the Shabiha militia] has committed many crimes."

Shabiha is an armed loyalist militia that has been active since the outbreak of peaceful protest movements in March 2013. Shabiha is accused of committing war crimes and massacres against civilians in residential neighborhoods.

Alloush added, "These news fall within the Syrian government and the Shabiha war against Ghouta and its people. Many people trust the page as an official source, but the truth is the opposite."

Alloush also noted, "The negotiations continue and we exert enormous efforts to reach a settlement to stop the bloodshed. We already explained our position about staying in Ghouta.”

Alloush said that it is too early to talk about the outcomes of the negotiations.

Earlier, Jaysh al-Islam denied that they reached an agreement to exit Ghouta as a part of the continuous negotiations between Russia and a civil committee in Douma. The negotiations will determine the fate of the city, which is controlled by Jaysh al-Islam, which gave no details of the negotiation process.

The civil committee of Douma includes a military commander of Jaysh-al-Islam, a member of the unified leadership of Eastern Ghouta, and civilian representatives.

The negotiations in Douma coincide with the completion of an agreement to displace civilians and al-Rahman Legion fighters from the central sector of Eastern Ghouta. Earlier, thousands of civilians and fighters from the Ahrar al-Sham Islamic Movement exited from the city of Harasta under a similar agreement.
