Idlib, SMART

On Friday, dozens of demonstrators protested in the city of Saraqib, Idlib, Northern Syria, to call upon Turkey to intervene in Idlib governorate.

100 protesters participated in the demonstration. The protesters raised flags of the Syrian Revolution and of Turkey, as well as signs saying, "Turks and Arabs share a history and a promising future”, and "the world let us down. Oh, Turks! Do not leave us alone, you are in our hearts”.

One of the protesters spoke to SMART saying an ”International conspiracy forced us to ask for help from Turkey, because we share borders, history, civilization, and features.”

The protester said that Northern Syria shelters millions of Syrians and Turkey has a duty to keep them safe.

The demonstration followed calls from the politIcal committee of Idlib for an urgent Turkish military intervention to protect the province.

In recent months, Turkey established several military outposts in Idlib to implement the de-escalation agreement, which was reached by Russia, Iran, and Turkey during the Astana talks.

Islamist battalions, most notably the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the Syrian Liberation Front currently control most of Idlib governorate. Free Syrian Army factions also operate in Idlib.
