Rif Dimashq governorate - SMART

On Friday, the Political Office Director of the Jaysh al-Islam, Yasser Delwan, said that they will issue a formal statement denying what the Russian media has reported about an agreement for Jaysh al-Islam members to exit from the besieged city of Douma in Eastern Ghouta. Jaysh al-Islam, allied with the Free Syrian Army, is one of the most prominent Islamic formations in Syria. It is fighting against the al-Nusra Front, the Islamic State, and the loyalist forces.

SMART asked Delwan questions about the proposed agreement with Russia on its exit from Douma. He responded, “We will deny it.”

Another spokesman for Jaysh al-Islam staff denied the news about their exit from Douma, stating that: "There is no truth to the agreement the media is talking about on Jaysh al-Islam's exit from the city of Douma."

He continued, "Our attitude is still clear and consistent on refusing forced displacement and demographic change of the remaining from Eastern Ghouta."

Interfax news agency and Russia Today websites quoted Russia's chief of staff as saying, "Today, an agreement has been reached with the leaders from the illegal armed formations on their withdrawal of fighters and their families from the city of Douma, soon."
