Turkey - SMART

On Friday, the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, considered France's decision to host a delegation from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which is mainly comprised of Kurdish People's Protection Units, a hostile expression against Turkey.

At a provincial leaders meeting for the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party in the capital Ankara, Erdogan said that hosting a delegation from a terrorist group is a clear sign of hostility against Turkey. He further added that Elysee's statement regarding a mediation between Turkey and the SDF exceeded limits.

Erdogan said that sooner or later France will understand hosting the SDF is a mistake, adding that France now had no right to complain about any kind of terror groups and terrorists who will flee from Iraq and Syria to France's cities, according to Anadolu Agency.

Earlier, the French presidency announced in a statement that the French President, Emmanuel Macron, invited Turkey to mediate with the SDF. The mediation will be sponsored by France and the international community.

Turkish statements followed after the French President, Emmanuel Macron, hosted a delegation for the SDF in Paris on Thursday. Macron paid tribute to the "sacrifices and determining role" of the SDF in the fight against the Islamic State.
