Aleppo - SMART

On Tuesday, 3548 people comprising the fourth group of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the city of Douma, Eastern Damascus, arrived at the Abu Zindeen crossing near al-Bab city east of Aleppo city, Northern Syria.

The fourth group is the first to arrive in Northern Syria after the chemical massacre in Douma. The massacre killed and wounded hundreds of civilians. Most local and international bodies have condemned the massacre.

Response coordinators in Northern Syria said on their official Facebook page that the fourth group of IDPs from Douma arrived in 76 buses, including five of which were empty, and two ambulances. The group included 3458 IDPs, including 1346 children and 877 women.

A source told SMART that the IDPs will be transferred to the al-Bal camp,  which is newly established near Azaz city, north of Aleppo.

Three groups of Douma’s IDPs have already arrived after an agreement between the Negotiation Committee representing Douma city and the Russians. The agreement includes the evacuation of "humanitarian cases" to the city of Jarablus.

Last March, Syrian government forces displaced more than 40,000 civilians and fighters from the cities and towns of the middle sector of Eastern Ghouta towards Idlib. This was carried out  after two separate agreements with the al-Rahman Legion and the Ahrar Sham Islamic Movement who were then controlling the region.
