Aleppo - SMART

On Wednesday, the Turkish army prevented the fifth convoy of internally displaced persons (IDPs)of Douma city, Eastern Damascus, from entering the town of al-Bab east of Aleppo, Northern Syria, on the pretext of the lack of places for their numbers.

The convoy includes about 85 buses carrying about 5,000 IDPs from the city of Douma. The Syrian government forces attacked the city using a chemical strike, killing dozens while injuring hundreds of others.

The activists of al-Bab city are trying to pressure the local council to provide schools and mosques to host the IDPs temporarily until the camps are ready and equipped. The head of the committee, Jamal Othman, promised the activists to secure a place to house the IDPs and enter the convoy.

It is not the first time that Turkey prevented the IDPs from entering northern countryside of Aleppo. Earlier, Turkey prevented a convoy from crossing under the pretext of "non-coordination," but it quickly canceled the decision due to popular pressure and demonstrations.

On Tuesday, 3548 IDPs from the city of Douma in the fourth group arrived in Northern Aleppo. The arriving IDPs were transferred to the newly established al-Bul camp near the city of Azaz. Turks confiscated the weapons of Jaysh al-Islam members in convoy.
