Turkey, SMART

On Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned that the United States smart missiles, which President Trump vows to use in Syria, could destroy evidence of using chemical weapons in the city of Douma in Eastern Damascus.

Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, wrote on Facebook that the smart missiles that Trump talked about would likely destroy all field evidence of chemical weapons ever being used.

These Russian statements where Zakharova expresses concerns about losing evidence come despite Russia's conclusive denial that the Syrian government used chemical weapons in Douma. Russia denied that any civilians were suffocated. Russia claimed to have carried out these analyses when a team of Russian military police entered the city of Douma.

Zakharova added on Facebook that the U.S.' smart missiles should be aimed at “terrorists” and not “the lawful government”.

On Wednesday, Trump warned Russia to get ready because the U.S.A would be using new smart missiles in response to the chemical massacre in the city of Douma near Damascus. Trump’s warning followed Russian statements that Moscow would shoot down any missiles fired at Syria.

On Wednesday, the White House stated that the British Prime Minister, Theresa May agreed with Trump on not allowing the Syrian government to continue its use of chemical weapons. Trump and May condemned what they called "the abhorrent disregard for Syrians’ lives by President Bashar al-Assad”.

On Saturday, Syrian government forces committed a chemical massacre in the city of Douma, killing and injuring hundreds of civilians. International bodies condemned the massacre and promised to respond.
