Turkey - SMART

On Saturday, the French Foreign Minister Jean-Pierre Le Derrion said the military strike against the Syrian government achieved its purpose.

Le Derrion, in an interview with BFM channel, said they did not intend to carry out further strikes in Syria. At the same time, he stressed that in the event that the Syrian government were to go beyond the red line again by using chemical weapons, there would be new strikes.

Le Derrion noted that there was no change to President Emmanuel Macaron's planned visit Moscow next month.

Moscow, the main ally of the Syrian government, opposed the Western strike, and called for a Security Countil meeting to discuss what it called western aggression.

The United States, France, and Britain launched a simultaneous attack in the early hours of Saturday morning, targeting military sites, mostly in the capital of Damascus and its surrounding areas.

This comes in the wake of the ongoing western threats to strike the Syrian government for its use of chemical weapons in the city of Douma, which killed dozens of civilians and wounded hundreds.
