Turkey - SMART

On Saturday, the British Prime Minister, Theresa May said that the missile strike on the Syrian government positions was both correct and legal.

May added that the aim of these strikes is to “deter the Syrian government from the use of chemical weapons, and to send a message to other countries that the use of these weapons is unacceptable,” according to Reuters.

May noted that information from intelligence and available sources indicated that the Syrian government was responsible for the chemical attack in Douma. She continued: "Officials in the Syrian loyalist forces coordinated the use of chlorine in Douma. No other party could carry out the attack. The opposition does not have explosive barrels or helicopters".

The United States, France, and Britain launched a simultaneous attack in the first hours of Saturday morning, targeting military sites mostly in the capital Damascus and its surroundings.

This comes in the wake of western threats to strike the Syrian government, after it used chemical weapons in the city of Douma, which killed dozens of civilians and wounded hundreds.
