France - SMART

A United Nations security team came under fire while entering the city of Douma, subsequently delaying the arrival of the chemical weapons inspection team to the city. Scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, the team was to inspect the site of the Syrian government's chemical attack a few days ago.

The head of the Organization for the Prohibition of Weapons, Ahmed Ozumjo, said on Tuesday, that a UN security team came under fire in Douma, which forced them to withdraw, and delayed the arrival of chemical weapons inspectors, according to Reuters.

Activists reported that on Monday, two car bombs exploded in the city recently seized by the Syrian government. The bombs killed at least one civilian while wounding several others. The pro-Syrian government media did not report anything about the explosion and no one claimed responsibility.

The United States and Western countries accused Russia of corrupting evidence at the site of the chemical strike and of blocking the arrival of organizational experts to the targeted area.

The French Foreign Ministry reported that "it is highly likely that necessary evidence and elements have disappeared from the site." It also asked Russia and the Syrian government to allow international investigators to enter the city properly and immediately.
