Damascus - SMART

A Syrian government bombing killed two civilians in the al-Yarmouk camp for internally displaced Syrians and Palestinian refugees, and the nearby city of al-Hajar al-Aswad in Southern Damascus.

Activists reported that the intense aerial, artillery and missile shelling killed two civilians. The activists added that the civilian who was killed in the al-Yarmouk camp was an elderly Palestinian man.

The activists reported that the death toll of the Syrian government military operation on Southern Damascus has reached 12 civilians.

Syrian government warplanes launched more than 55 airstrikes on Yarmouk camp and the city of al-Hajar al-Aswad, in addition to 24 ground-to-ground missiles, 11 barrel bombs, and explosive hoses.

The Syrian government has launched a military operation targeting the al-Tadamon and al-Qadam neighborhoods, al-Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees, and the city of al-Hajar al-Aswad. The government relocated loyalist militias from Douma to the operation area. The militias include the National Defense, the Arab National Guard, the General Command of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Palestine Guards.

Activists reported that the Syrian government escalated their military operation in Southern Damascus after the Russian-brokered negotiations with the Islamic State failed. The negotiations revolved around the Islamic State's relocation to the Syrian steppe in Southeastern Syria, and the relocation of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham fighters from the al-Yarmouk camp to Idlib in Northern Syria.
