Hama – SMART

On Tuesday, representatives of the towns and villages of the Northern Hama countryside invited the Turkish government to expand the de-escalation area in Northern Syria to include Northern Hama's towns and villages so internally displaced people can return to their homes.

The representatives met with Turkish officers at a Turkish checkpoint in the town of Murek, Northern Hama, and told them about the people's desire to expand the de-escalation area.

The Turkish officers promised to deliver their claim to the Turkish government for consideration.

The representatives said in a statement that they represent the people of 39 villages and towns in Northern Hama. The loyalist bombing and battles forced the people to flee from the area.

The statement said that 90 percent of the people fled due to bombings and clashes, inviting the Turkish government to expand the de-escalation area in order for the people to return to their villages under a United Nations sponsorship.

Earlier, dozens of people protested in Idlib governorate, demanding Turkey to establish more checkpoints to protect the area from the loyalist forces.

The Turkish Army has established several  checkpoints in Idlib, Aleppo, and Hama in accordance with the de-escalation agreement, which was concluded in the Astana 6 Talks.
