Turkey - SMART

On Wednesday, George Sabra, newly resigned from the Syrian National Coalition, said that the "National Coalition is no longer a tool of militancy for the revolution".

The Syrian National Coalition is an alliance of parties and political bodies opposed to the Syrian government. Founded in 2012, it is recognized by a number of Arab and Western countries as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.

Sabra told SMART, "For me, the coalition is no longer an appropriate militancy tool for the Syrian revolution".

Sabra added that he has no intention of forming a new body after withdrawing from the coalition. However, he stressed the need to fill the gap in order to lead into the next stage, which is supposed to include a joint collective action among Syrians.

Earlier today, three members (including Sabra) announced their resignation from the coalition. They said that the coalition did not adhere to the principles of the Syrian revolution, and the current political track is matched with the Russian one, which rehabilitates the al-Assad government.

Sabra said that his resignation will not affect the coalition as an entity and that "it will continue." He noted that many members of the coalition had resigned before him, and the coalition did not dissolve.
