SMART - Quneitra

A special source revealed to SMART that Russia and the United States have agreed to the establishment of United Nations observation points on the borderline between the areas controlled by the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and the Syrian government forces in the governorate of Quneitra, Southern Syria.

The source, who wished to remain anonymous, added that the observation points will be established near the towns of Hadr and Khan Arnaba and the village of Ofania. Two of the points have been confirmed in Hadr and the area of Tall al-Qaba belonging to the town of Khan Arnaba. The dates for the establishment of the points remain unknown.

The source added that the purpose of the United Nations observation points is to separate the FSA factions from the Syrian government forces, adding that the government forces have been trying to advance into the village of Ofania to install barriers. The barriers were designed to keep the Unite Nations observation points on the other side.

A United Nations delegation visited the town of Hadr on Apr. 24, 2018. Hadr is controlled by the Syrian government forces, and the reason for the delegation's visit remained unknown until now.

On Friday, Apr. 27, 2018, clashes broke out between FSA factions and the Syrian government forces near the town of Arnaba. Tanks and mortars were used during the clashes.
