Aleppo - SMART

On Saturday, members of the Syrian Media Union met with the security service and the local council of the city of Azaz, 44 kilometers north of Aleppo, Northern Syria.

A private source reported that the meeting discusses ways to facilitate and protect the work media officers and activists in the Free Syria Army-controlled areas. The head of the local council promised to solve all problems between the Syrian Media Union and the security service.

This meeting came after the security service in Azaz attacked a member of the union, as the latter organized a protest to condemn this attack. The local council called to form a joint delegation along with the union to meet with officials in the police service and the general security service.

Several media officers in Northern Aleppo faced threats of death and detainment. The last incident occurred when an armed member of the Haffar family threated media officers in the Azaz city market, of killing them one after another. Media officers faced harassments, verbal and physical attacks while covering events in the area, according to sources.

In different areas of Syria, media officers are facing attacks and violation by the loyalist forces, Free Syrian Army factions, and other Islamic factions.
