Al-Raqqah - SMART

High temperatures and hot weather cause dozens of sunstroke cases among internally displaced persons in camps of the al-Raqqah governorate, Northeastern Syria.

A medical source reported from a camp that they recorded 13  cases of sunstroke today in makeshift camps in the al-Raqqah Western countryside. Eight cases were recorded the day before.

The source added that several cases were transported to the Modern Medicine hospital in the city of al-Tabqah. The source also said that there may be other unrecorded cases.

A tropical cyclone hits Syria, causing temperatures to reach 38 degrees, which are higher than the normal rate of about 7 degrees, according to the Accuweather American website.

Last Tuesday, lack of medical centers in Western al-Raqqah area, which is controlled by the Kurdish Autonomous Administration, killed a displaced woman in a makeshift camp.

The internally displaced persons are considered the most affected people from weather changes in the winter and summer. During winter, storms damaged several displacement camps, where IDPs suffered from harsh humanitarian conditions, as heavy rain, snow, and wind destroyed doens of tents.
