Turkey - SMART

On Saturday, Syrian government forces and the Islamic State (ISIS) denied reaching an agreement that expels the latter from both the al-Yarmouk refugee camp and al-Hajar al-Aswad town, Southern Damascus.

The official Russia Today (RT) channel reported from field sources that clashes between ISIS and the loyalist forces would stop from 12:00 pm until 5:00 am the next day. RT reported that ISIS is ready to withdraw 1,700 fighters along with their families. The channel added that the loyalist forces and ISIS did not reach an official agreement, as they did not determine the destination of the exiting fighters.

Loyalist media channels quoted from a military source: "There is no agreement with ISIS, and any information to the contrary received is inaccurate." The source did not add any further information.

ISIS reported through its media channels that their fighters are clashing with the loyalist forces, saying that ISIS killed 900 loyalist forces fighters and destroyed 37 military vehicles in 28 days.

Earlier, ISIS announced 670 fighters loyalist forces were killed during clashes in Southern Damascus in a period of three weeks.

The Syrian government forces launched a military operation after negotiations with ISIS,  which were sponsored by Russia, failed. The negotiations were discussing ISIS fighters’ being sent towards the Syrian Desert, simultaneously as fighters of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham head for the Idlib governorate.
