Ar Raqqa - SMART

On Wednesday, the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) carried out raids and arrests in some villages and towns in the countryside of
al- Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, after unknown groups raised the flag of the Syrian government in some areas.

Local sources told SMART that groups of the intelligence service of the YPG raided the villages of Kadiran and Salhabiyat, Aiouj, Jayef, Adnaniya and Mansoura in the western countryside of ar Raqqa, in addition to the first and second neighborhoods in the city of al-Tabaqa.

The sources added that the intelligence also confiscated mobile phones of most of the young men in the villages of Fiteh, Aiouj, and al-Mansoura during the campaign. No sufficient information on the number of people arrested during the campaign was reported.

The activists stated that the reason for this massive campaign is because unknown groups raised the flag of the Syrian government and some slogans in areas of the western countryside.

On Saturday, the YPG closed all the entrances of the third neighborhood in the city of al-Tabaqa, except for one entry. The YPG also erected concrete barriers to protect its headquarters there in anticipation of any attacks. On Tuesday, the YPG arrested three people in the city of al- Raqqa on charges of belonging to the Islamic State ISIS.
