Al-Raqqah - SMART

The prices of ice blocks increased in the city of al-Raqqah, Northeastern Syria, to reach 600 Syrian Pounds during Ramadan.

Ismael al-Barud, an ice vendor, said that ice blocks are considered to be one of the essential products in the market, as people are fasting during the summer. Consumers buy one ice block for 600 Syrian Pounds, while vendors buy it for 375 SYP.

Al-Barud added that People have to buy ice cubes, as they cannot produce ice blocks at home due to harsh conditions. Electricity is available only for two hours daily, and private generators provide three more hours.

Internally displaced persons in the Daraa governorate also complained about the prices of ice block, which reached 800 SYP. Ice blocks' production in the city of al-Tabqah increased, as electricity is available in the areas near the Euphrates River, according to citizens.

People in areas outside the loyalist forces' control suffer as a result of the relatively high prices for goods in the market especially in comparison to their salaries and monthly incomes. The U.S. Dollar exchange rate against the Syrian Pound increased exponentially, and now 1$ equals 450 to 500 SYP.
