Turkey, SMART

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham(HTS) denied involvement in kidnapping Captain Sa’id Naqrash,  the former commander of al-Islam Martyrs Brigade. The denial followed a video posted on Facebook showing Naqrash handcuffed and delivering confessions.

Handcuffed and looking down, Naqrash said in the video that Turkey and world intelligence services asked the al-Islam Martyrs Brigade to attend Astana Talks where they agreed on fighting the HTS( formerly al-Nusra Front) for releasing captives of the al-Islam Martyrs Brigade.

A source in the brigade revealed that the HTS arrested Naqrash a month ago for attending Astana Talks, moments after he came from Turkey to meet his family displaced from the city of al-Dumir.

Following the video, the HTS denied involvement in kidnapping Naqrash. HTS news outlets reported that posting the video could be incited by sides aiming at stirring disagreement between the HTS and other factions.

A source in al-Islam Martyrs Brigade reported that Captain Naqrash underwent psychological and physical torture, which was obvious on Naqrash’s face and body.

Naqrash was commander of al-Islam Martyrs Brigade in the city of Daraya, where the Syrian government forces and supporting militias conducted a significant military campaign following years of siege. An agreement to evacuate the brigade to Northern Syria marked the end of the campaign in late August 2016.
