Hama - SMART

Internally displaced persons from the villages of Karnaz and al-Tar, Northwestern Hama, Central Syria, demanded Turkey to guarantee their return to their villages.

The local and public councils of Karnaz and al-Tar issued a statement calling upon the Turkish government to return to their villages.

A local delegation from the mentioned areas contacted the Turkish forces stationed at the control point in the city of Mourek. The commission delivered the message to the residents. Turkish officers promised the delegation to implement their desires “as soon as possible.”

The population of the villages of Karnaz and al-Tar reached 165,000 people in 27 villages. 90% of the people have been displaced, according to the statement.

Representatives of 39 villages and towns in Northern Hama called upon the Turkish government to expand the de-escalation area to reach their villages so that the IDPs could return to their villages. The Turkish officers promised the residents to transfer their wishes to the Turkish government to study it.

Earlier, dozens of people protested in Idlib. The protesters called for spreading more control points to protect the governorate from the Syrian government forces. The Turkish Army has established several control points in Idlib, Aleppo, and Hama, under the de-escalation agreement.
